About Me
Brett Miller is an American conductor and organist celebrated for his versatility in symphonic, educational, and film concert music. Recently, he served as Assistant Conductor of both the Eastman Philharmonia and the Eastman School Symphony Orchestra. In this position, he collaborated with faculty and guest conductors, prepared rehearsals, stepped in as cover conductor, and led various performances. He also served as the Artistic Director and Music Director of the Empire Film and Media Ensemble, where he shaped the artistic vision and conducted performances integrating orchestra, chorus, and film.
Miller has also recently earned recognition as a first time recipient of the Career Assistance Award from the Solti Foundation U.S. Recent conducting engagements include appearances with the Eastman Philharmonia and Eastman School Symphony Orchestra. In addition, he maintains close relationships with the ensemble and the Beal Institute of Film and Contemporary Media, working to integrate live-to-picture performances through collaborations with composers such as Mark Watters and Jeff Beal. Most recently, he was a conducting Fellow at Domaine Forget de Charlevoix, where he participated in Masterclasses with the National Arts Center Orchestra and the Orchestre Metropolitan.
In addition to his conducting roles, Brett has participated in masterclasses with esteemed conductors such as Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Kensho Watanabe, Mei-Ann Chen, Leonard Slatkin, Tito Muñoz, Anthony Parnther, and Matilda Hofman.
In addition to his conducting career, Miller is an accomplished concert organist and Silent Film Accompanist. He has played sold-out performances of Nosferatu at Marian Anderson Hall, in collaboration with the Philadelphia Orchestra, as well as the Boston Pops and the Houston Symphony. His recent scores have been recorded with organizations such as the Eye Filmmuseum, the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau Foundation, and Kino Lorber Classics. He has been featured in the past at various film festivals and has played events in conjunction with film preservationists from the Library of Congress and George Eastman House. Additionally, he serves as an Associate Organist at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, where he plays the world’s largest pipe organ.
Miller earned his Master of Music in Orchestral Conducting from the Eastman School of Music, where he studied with Brad Lubman and Neil Varon and received instruction from Mark Davis Scatterday.
